Engine Repair Rebuild Overhaul Service
Many companies offer engine rebuilding services at low prices. However, quality often correlates with cost. Here are instances of engines brought to Belchers in poor condition, despite supposed rebuilds.
Cadillac V8
This engine was reported to be in good operation when the customer purchased the vehicle, however when the customer went to drive the vehicle home the engine started making a knocking noise.
On inspection, someone had repaired the engine with a coke cans and used these to shim up the bearings.
What makes matters worse, is that they appear to have used diet coke. Full fat, may have lasted a little longer :-)
Belchers fully rebuild this engine the correct way and it continues to perform years later.
Plymouth Flathead L6
This Plymouth Flathead has had new pistons, but the original valves have been left in the place and not replaced.
Water has been allowed to sit around the pistons and the valves dont seat correctly. Running this engine would score the combustion chamber and potentially damage the piston rings.
The whole inside of the engine is very dirty and this dirt will move around the engine.
Willis Jeep
A client brought their smoking Willis Jeep to Belchers, indicating it required a minor tune up. The engine was supposedly completely rebuilt in the USA recently. However, upon inspection, it was found that the engine overhaul was more of a bodge up than a true rebuild.
Someone had ground down the cylinder lips that were present from excessive wear. Grounded cylinder lips may create an illusion of proper functioning, yet in reality, they lead to piston instability and oil leakage into the combustion chamber. This causes spark plug fouling and emission of smoke.
